NEW AI TECH FELLOWS COHORT 26-27

We are excited to announce a new call for applications for the 2026–27 Faculty Technology Fellows cohort—this year with a special focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The Faculty Technology Fellows program has long supported faculty in enhancing teaching, increasing student engagement, and advancing scholarship through innovative uses of technology. This year, we are building on that foundation with a forward-looking theme centered on AI and its growing impact across higher education.

This year’s focus areas include:

  • AI for teaching and course design

  • AI for student learning and success

  • AI for student use and digital literacy

  • AI for professional development

  • AI for working smarter—not harder

  • AI policies

  • AI’s environmental impact and strategies for responsible, sustainable use

We will select a cohort of Fellows who are interested in exploring, experimenting with, and implementing AI in meaningful, discipline-specific ways.

Program structure:

  • Monthly cohort meetings throughout the Fall semester

  • Collaborative exploration, project development, and peer support

  • A culminating AI Symposium in January/February, where Fellows will share their work and insights with the campus community

  • The goal: equip faculty to thoughtfully integrate AI into their teaching and workflows beginning in the Spring semester

Incentives:

This special 1-year AI Faculty Technology Fellows will receive the following for their commitment and participation:

  • $750 stipend for attending the fall workshops

  • A year-long pro subscription to the AI tool


As in past years, the program is collaborative, project-based, and designed to support faculty across disciplines and levels of experience.

Previous Tech Fellows are encouraged to apply again, especially if you are interested in deepening your work through an AI-focused lens.

PROGRAM GOALS

The primary mission of the Faculty Technology Fellows program is to empower faculty in their use of technology to enhance teaching, increase student engagement, and advance scholarship. The Faculty Technology Fellows program aims to empower and enable faculty with the following:

  1. Enhance Pedagogical Skills: Faculty will be able to integrate technology tools into their teaching practices to enhance pedagogical effectiveness and create interactive learning environments.

  2. Technology Proficiency: Faculty and students will demonstrate proficiency in using key technological tools relevant to their disciplinary needs, including digital collaboration platforms, learning management systems, and discipline-specific software.

  3. Engagement Strategies: Students and faculty will be able to employ technology to increase engagement through interactive sessions, virtual reality experiences, and gamified learning, leading to improved student participation and motivation.

  4. Research and Scholarship Advancement: Faculty and students will learn to utilize advanced technological tools and methods to conduct research, manage data, and disseminate findings effectively, thereby advancing academic scholarship.

  5. Digital Literacy: Participants will develop critical digital literacy skills to evaluate, utilize, and create digital content responsibly, fostering a culture of ethical use of technology in academic settings.

FACULTY COMMITMENT

Faculty Technology Fellows participate for two years. The two-year program is iterative, project-based, collaborative, and individualized. Participants use teaching goals, course learning objectives, and personal development goals to inform their projects. Projects may start large or small but ultimately are refined to impact the classroom.

‍ ‍Year 1:

  • Redesign at least one course by incorporating appropriately matched technologies to enhance course learning objectives.

  • Attend a mandatory week-long summer workshop (May) to learn new technologies develop a course redesign and assessment plan.

  • Attend monthly meetings to discuss progress.

  • Present projects to the university at the spring Faculty Professional Development Series.

    Year 2:

  • Serve as mentors to new faculty and faculty members within their respective departments.

  • Attend a week-long summer workshop to refine skills and focus on redesigning another course.

  • Attend monthly meetings with Technology Fellows peers to discuss progress.Complete an assessment of the program and provide written documentation about course redesign and outcomes.

ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION

The program seeks to select a diverse group of participants across all disciplines, levels of teaching experiences, and technology expertise.

  • All full-time faculty members are eligible to apply. A call for applications occurs each April.

  • The number of participants is subject to funding. A typical cohort is between 5-10 participants per year.

INCENTIVES AND SUPPORT

Faculty Technology Fellows will receive the following for their commitment and participation:

  •  $500 stipend for attending a week-long summer workshop (year 1 & 2)

  • an iPad

  • up to $1,500 to attend a technology-related conference (1 trip over the 2 years)
